Become a System 3+ EPD validator
The new CPR (Regulation EU 2024/3110) introduces System 3+, where the environmental data behind a Declaration of Performance is independently validated on the principles of EN ISO/IEC 17029. Demand for qualified validators is coming — get certified through ERCA, the European Register of Certificated Auditors.
- ✓ Personnel certification to EN ISO/IEC 17024
- ✓ Grounded in EN ISO/IEC 17029 validation
- ✓ Built around CPR 2024/3110 System 3+
- ✓ Listed in the European Register (ERCA)
Certification of persons is operated by ERCA to EN ISO/IEC 17024. Formal authority to validate under the CPR rests with notified bodies designated under EN ISO/IEC 17029.
Why this role is about to matter
System 3+ moves environmental data from a marketing afterthought to a validated input of the Declaration of Performance. That validation needs certified people who understand both the LCA and the regulation — today there are very few of them.
A new regulated task
Under CPR 2024/3110, System 3+ requires independent validation of environmental data — a task defined by EN ISO/IEC 17029, distinct from product certification and testing.
A shortage of validators
The skill set — LCA fluency plus 17029 discipline plus CPR literacy — is rare. Those certified now will be in demand as the regime takes effect.
A recognised credential
ERCA certifies persons to EN ISO/IEC 17024 and lists them in the European Register of Certificated Auditors — an independent, recognised mark of competence.
What a validator masters
The competence behind System 3+ validation rests on three pillars — assessed and certified through ERCA.
EN ISO/IEC 17029
The requirements for validation and verification bodies — impartiality, competence, and the validation process. The normative backbone of System 3+.
EN 15804+A2 & ISO 14025
How an EPD is built — declared unit, modules, Product Category Rules — so you can judge whether the data holds up.
CPR 2024/3110 literacy
How System 3+ sits within the AVCP systems, what the validation report contains, and where it feeds the Declaration of Performance.
